Gambia Tourist Support

The GTS Bar and Restaurant

First opened in 2001, suddenly GTS had a means to fund the employment of many Gambians, but it has taken a long time for the Bar & Restaurant to fully fund itself

The Bar and Restaurant actually lost money - in the first two years of operation, (not a lot of money) but it doesn't pay the rent during the rainy season months, however, this is true of many businesses in Gambia that rely on the tourist trade. Most shut down and get rid of their staff - GTS stays open for as long as it can each year (October - May) October and May loose money and since 2004, the GTS Bar closed during the rainy season months after loosing substantial money during the rainy season in previous years.

By 2006 GTS was featured in all the major travel guides and is now well known not just as a Bar and Restaurant but also as a major charity contributor in Gambia.

Each year any income above expenditure has been used to refurbish, replace kitchen equipment, purchase tables and chairs etc, in 2007 it allowed us to invest in some capital equipment - snooker and table tennis tables a football table and a darts board which we hope will extend the business during the day and in the evenings.

GTS in Senegambia develops year on year and it now provides the FREE office space in the centre of the busiest tourist resort in Gambia to our sister UK registered charity GETSUK, which benefits from all of the other services provided by the Restaurant.
