How we get the money to operate "They live in Westminster, they must be worth a fortune" overheard at the GTS restaurant in Senegambia |
|
Charitable
works All GTS money is use to sponsor education or to develop work opportunities for Gambians. All GTS projects aim to be fully self-sufficient to avoid any reliance on charity handouts. GTS charges for its services at fixed and reasonable prices - you may get cheaper, but other oganisations are not supporting their staff all year round or using their surpluses to help sponsoring children. If you can help raise money towards a GTS project, we would really appreciate it, we'll get there anyway but faster would be nice. GETSUK is totally reliant on donated funds and the support of GTS in Gambia. Comments to GTS |
There speaks the voice of cynicism, as it happens we are not worth a fortune and the initial money for GTS came from giving up smoking & drinking and stopping all magazine subscriptions. So where does the money come from then?
This page was first written in 2003, the funding source pages above have been updated and now, years on from where we started, we can see that some of the sources have been more reliable than others, but all remain potential sources of income for the charity. In 2005 GETSUK was registered as a charity in the UK Reg No 1110998 and has taken over the control for all the Sponsorship and Educational Support that was a major part of GTS.
GTS Senegambia, still provides the office and main services for GETSUK along side the Bar & Restaurant and from 2010 it provides accommodation for members & volunteers at GTS Kololi and once in profit the accommodation will contribute 50% of profits to the UK registered charity - the two are like Sisters and we refer to each as SISTER Charities. 5
