Avoid the Scams and Conmen
Unfortunately there are a few of these around the tourist area, they are difficult to detect and even when known they are difficult to bring to justice - so do be very careful

You are particularly vulnerable to scams in the first few days of your holiday, when the local bumsters know you are new in the country.
As you develop a sun tan and an attitude and air of confidence, you will get less hassle from the small operators, but you are still very vulnerable to expensive scams and practised conmen
Be particulary careful over the 'really nice stranger' scam, many will play a very long waiting game ( several years) to gain your confidence before attempting to take advantage of your generosity.
They will use letters, send cards, make phone calls and use emails and faxes, they will use friendship, concern, love and sex, they will do whatever it takes.
We were quite convinced we had found a genuine, honest local man, he took three years before showing his real intentions.
These long term scams are often set up, gradually sucking you into giving money to help sick parents. Brothers and sister who need education. Help with starting a business or just money to pay a debt or a bill.
It is very difficult to sort out the genuine people from those who make a living at this.
Devotion to the daily religious practises of Islam are most definitely not a guaranteed sign of honesty, but some will use this as a subtle way of convincing you that they are genuine. Some of course are genuine, which makes it even harder!!
GTS can only help you if you feel one of our hosts is hassling you, we now book all trips in the office and without an official office receipt we cannot take action - beware of those who say they work for GTS or drive a GTS car - BOOK at the OFFICE and leave tips at the office.
OUR tipping policy is to share the tips among the small team of GTS hosts, it is what we do in teh Bar and Restaurant - there are of course workers who do try to keep the tips BUT this is not the way GTS operates.
