News
Page Thank you to all site visitors for being so patient, while the Hell months of July and August subsided. The CLA has more or less agreed thatI will progressively increase my time with the charity from 3 months a year to 7 by 2006, which will now allow projects like the shared ownership lodge and the GTS safe house to proceed. GTS Brufut - kindly donated for a minimum of 5 years by Pam & David Brodie will become my base in Gambia for the next few years. Helen Glynn will remain in the UK for the forseeable future, furthering her very successful return to teaching in Inner City Lambeth. Comments to GTS |
The fair was another record breaker and again we were blessed with some good weather. Nearly 1000 exhibitors attended to sell their wares from Purdey shot guns to top fishing rods to horses houses and garden swimming pools - there is almost nothing thatis not represented at the show which this year broke the record yet again for attendance with 137,500 visitors over the 3 days. Gambia has to go onto the back burner and until I find soemone to look after the site for me over thise two months it doesn't seem that there is much of an option. GTS has managed this rainy season - it is always a struggle butwith a few members going out and very kindly supporting us we manage to keep the bar and restaurant open - even if not quite busy enough to call it swinging. GTS followers will have met Sally at GTS, she got her visitor visa and arrived in the UK for a 10 week visit to study typing and computers to enable her to help me when I'm in Gambia. Kabs arrived on September 7th and we all wish him a very warm welcome - he is stay with a very supportive GTS member and we hope will make a few trips to meet other GTS & GES activists. Mira has started a fund to get Ebou the young man with the chronically twisted foot to the UK for treatment and a number of other fund raisers are in progress. Julie ran a very successful Fish and Chip Supper and Quiz Night, which Sally and I attended, it raised a wonderful £437.10p. Lesley has raised over £1400 for the multi purpose Gym in Youna (the school where she and Tim very successfully introduced badminton to the Gambia late last year. Helen Murtagh in a bid to kick the cigarettes is having a sponsored attempt to kick it for good - the proceeds very kindly are going to GTS projects. And not wishing to be left out - my daughter volunteered me to have my beard cut off raising over £140 with a few more promisesstill to be redeemed. 5 Top
