Maybe you caught Martin's short film and account of his trip to The Gambia. It showed him visiting Kololi, visiting a nature reserve, taking a ferry trip from Banjul to Barra and a pirogue (motorised canoe) to Ginak Island, north and up the coast towards Senegal. He obviously enjoyed it and so will you.

Martin went with The Gambia Experience, one of the longest established operators out there, they employ a lot of Gambians and run many trips, as well as arranging flights and accommodation, a wider range of operators now visit and most also provide cut price 'Flights only', but, new to us were the 4 day weekend trips offered by 'The Gambia Experience'

Tours of this sort are fine if you don't mind being with a crowd and some people actually prefer it. However, you tend to be looking at, rather than being with the local people and you don't interact with them at such a personal level. Brilliant stuff though and the more people who visit this tiny country the better.

BUT, if you want something more than an organised outing in a coach or safari jeep then keep your options open - the independent GTS directory lists a wide variety of tours and so can offer a much more personalised service, providing choices across the whole spectrum of what is available.

Of course we hope that you will spend a day or two with a GTS host, going off as individuals or in smaller groups, it will cost you no more, but you will see and experience much more as friends of the host rather than as tourists. You will be welcomed into people's homes and meet locals on a 'one to one' footing. What you will take home with you will be far more than photographs - wonderful memories and experiences that will last forever.
