Page The GTS site is now getting a staggering 1250 unique visitors a week and will provide a worldwide window on the work we are doing in Gambia. See Site Statistics - The Reality. So far, most of our members join GTS because of the support we provide to visitors, but once they visit Gambia and see what GTS is doing many want to become involved and help - GES will provide the UK support network for that to happen. We are going to need a great deal of help, so if you think you can help us with some of your time, or if you have a skill you can volunteer for us to use then please let us know. Comments to GTS |
Welcome to Gambia Education Support (GES) GES is becoming the UK registered charity side of GTS Initially all GTS members past and present will be invited to become GES members for the first year of the charity, the subscription will be a minimum of £1 a month or £12 for the year via a Direct Debit to GES. The GES 'embryo' Board of Trustees is the smallest group of people allowed by the Charity Commission (3) to steer GES through its charity status application. These three positions are a chairman, a secretary, a treasurer - initially I will be the chairman, Julie Limbrick has volunteered to be the secretary, and a treasurer, David Brodie, to steer us through to our inaugural AGM in early June 2004 GES will raise funds in the UK for all of the Educational Support for school developments, Sponsorships and all donations supporting educational opportunities, as well as co-ordinating the growing numbers of Working volunteers and Gap students working on projects in Gambia. GTS will continue to deal with all the visiting tourist issues, pre, during and post their visit as well as FREE pickups from Banjul airport, accommodation, trips for members of GTS or GES, as well as land issues etc. and will continue with our primary role of creating employment in Gambia, funded by the existing enterprises that GTS has developed over the last 7 years. This is a very very exciting development from my point of view, as it will support GTS overall with a highly motivated team to carry out all the things that I have really failed to do very efficiently for the past 7 years. Sponsors will at last get frequent feedback, pictures and reports about the children they are sponsoring as well as more general information about all the charitable projects being run in Gambia Members who have volunteered to raise funds will have proper support materials, information about the work of GES and GTS and I will be more able to promote the work of GES & GTS through the website. 5 Top
