Foday at Lamin Lodge before the fire that destroyed much of it on Sunday 30th April 2000

Lamin Lodge creek from Kings Castle, Lamin.

Now with some pictures after the fire - see below
A real tragedy but building has started again and I'm sure the end result will be even better.

I received an Email from Foday who lives in Lamin village, telling me that he was an eye witness to the destruction of this tourist venue.

He said ….

Finally Francis, On Saturday (actually it was Sunday early morning) about 3:30AM. Lamin Lodge was burnt by fire and all their boats were burnt into ashes. Which is a very sad thing for Gambians. I was even an eye witness because people were trying to rescue the boats with their engine but is not possible the heat was so serious .

And they later arrest the Watchman, and take him to the police station because he was alone there.

I have asked Foday to send more details and if possible to send pictures, which I will add in due course to this page.

Pictures obtained 6/6/2000 from the GambiaNews site.
On the left the site from the shore looking towards the Creek and to the left the start of rebuilding the jetty so boats can land, below from the air as it was

Foday at LL after the fire
Only Peter's own house survived the fire.

I have heard that the owner Peter has estimated that it will cost 1 million Dalasi to rebuild and it will cause some disruption to river trips between the lodge and Banjul.

From the land and from the creek, as it was.
