Enormous leaves, amazing flowers, brightly marked and strange shaped birds, fishes of all shapes, sizes and colours, as well as the orange and green landscape all around, form the natural world of The Gambia.

The human environment is equally stimulating, the different traditional clothing, (The Gambia is host to a wide variety of peoples) the music and dance, the shops and market outlets, the houses, the boats and just the day to day way of life is so different.

The greatest effect this has, is on your first drive from the airport to the Atlantic coast resorts. The journey at present takes you through the suburbs of SereKunda and there is no getting away from the fact that this is a third world country. The state of the roads ravaged by the summer rains, the type of buildings and fencing. BUT the spontaneous show of smiles and waves is as warming as the sun itself, you truly feel WELCOME. (Now most tour coaches go on the new road missing this out)

These pages celebrate the differences and combine together a group of experiences that grow with every visit.

Cameras are not universally welcome. Ask before you snap or film and many people will ask for a few Dalasi to use them as models. If you don't want to pay, don't offend by still taking the picture. It will lead to unpleasant and vocal scenes and you will not be considered the innocent party.
