Chirs and Corrine went on 4 visits out using all 4 GTS hosts as well as being met at the airport on their first day

Apart from the bumsters and the the heat they would like to return.

Despite the Army Tourist Force in the Senegambia area, we still get complaints about the bumsters, the only real solution is employment and education - while tourists support the bumsters, by going out with them or giving them money - they will continue to be a problem, like bees round a honey pot so to speak.

Dear Francis

I just wanted to send you an email to tell you what a great time we had in the Gambia over Easter and how much GTS contributed to this.

Kabs and Modou picked us up at the airport and we were quickly whisked off to our hotel via the GTS restaurant. It was great to arrive at our hotel long before the rest of the Panorama holidaymakers – and a great start to the holiday in general!

Kabs also showed us where the nearest bank was so we were able to change some money before it closed for the Easter weekend.

We ended up going on 4 different trips with the various hosts –

  • Roots (with Modou and Yanks),
  • Katchikally, Abuko and Lamin Lodge (with Yanks),
  • Makasutu (with Kabs and Jerrreh) and the
  • GTS Wednesday trip (with Kabs and Tunko).

All of the trips were great – it was so much better to be able to visit things in a small group then be herded around on the large tour operator trips.

We really appreciated being able to see things at our own pace and experience more of the real Gambia, whilst having the hosts there to help us deal with some of the more unexpected aspects of Gambian culture (such as the Barra Ferry).

We also spent a number of evenings at the GTS restaurant and particularly enjoyed seeing the local dancers and musicians perform.

As we were on half board, we only ate there once but the food was lovely.

Of course there were some aspects to the Gambia that we didn’t like – such as the bumsters, and the heat did start to get a bit too much near the end of our stay – but all in all we had a fantastic holiday and are planing to go back at some point in the next few years.

So a big thanks to you and all the GTS staff for making our time in the Gambia so memorable – and good luck with GTS in the future!

Corinne and Chris

Many thanks to both of you, GTS Gambia emailed me to say what a nice time they had had taking you out, so I am double pleased that you had a good time as well. Please pass on the word about GTS we don't advertise and depend on our members to talk about us and the Gambia.
