The local people believe that the pools have a magical power and in particular bathing in the waters can aid in fertility.

There are a number of these sacred crocodile pools but this is the closest to the tourist area. I have been several times but can still not give adequate directions. It is best to go with a guide. GTS can include this during their Bakau day, many of the tour operators include it in their City Tour.

The route in is a bit of a tourist gauntlet with a lot of small gift shops all plying for trade once inside the place has a wonderfully quiet charm unless you arrive when a coach trip is looking round.

Charlie is the tamest croc there, often basking in the sun, you won't get closer to a crocodile than this. There are often large termite mounds in the area so take a close look at one of these citadels of insect industry.
