Local Taxi & Bus Fares

This page I know is going to be a problem as fares change - but hopefully I can keep it updated using this coloured line scheme.

The main purpose of this diagram is to show the local fares, per person, one way.

GTS Kololi is currently sending me the prices of each journey, Iam sorry the map is currently incomplete but it provides an indication of the cost of travel using local taxis and buses.

Prices on some of these routes increase at night.

Longer and rural journeys are often just one bus a day and timings are justnot possible to predict.

As the image below right is just one graphic, it can be copied and pasted into an application that allows you to print it. (ie M/S Word) GTS hopes you find it useful.

This page was first published in April 2003 - It is now approaching 2008 - prices have increased on the longer journeys but are still within a Dalasi on the shorter journeys

THIS PAGE WILL BE UPDATED ON MY RETURN TO GAMBIA SEPTEMBER 2007

This is GTS's Gambian equivalent of the London Tube Map, it is not to scale and it shows the start and end points not the places in between.

The coloured lines represent the fares from point to point, long journeys can be made and paid for direct, the same destination can be reached (eventually - often measured in days) by taking shorter trips between the towns on the way.

Local taxis and buses are an experience, if you have the time and discomfort threshold to handle them. We love them, but they are not everyone's thing and often where you get dropped off is a long way from your final destination, with a long walk being the only way there.
