When Faye's parents both died, she came to live with her Grandmother in the compound in Lamin where Foday also stayed.
In late 2000 her grandmother was taking ill and eventually Foday insisted that GTS take her to hospital, but it was too late - Faye's only close relative died two days later, leaving Faye an Orphan.

Without a wife or family of his own Foday was in no position to take Faye in, she is now staying with a 'so called' Uncle and his family - GTS is sponsoring Faye's education and clothing and will offer her a place in our safe house as soon as it is available.

When I visited in August, Fayending was not the bright happy little girl I had met in Fo's compound the year before she looked like a little 'Cinderella' and her eyes looked sad and far older than her 13 years, her hair was plain and her clothes very shabby.

Despite all the trauma of the last year, Fayending is moving up to grade 6 in school and was 7th out of 46 pupils in her class.

When Fo asked her how she was, she replied that the people in the compound were no longer giving her a hard time - but Fayending looks like she is the bottom of the pecking order and it was hard to even get a smile from her.
