18th May - Kashgar market

Went to the market today which was cool but not as good as I expected, China is devolping really fast and they have split the market, which was once a huge chaotic mix of live stock, brick brack, clothing literally anything you can think of, but now the live stock is somewhere else, some people who had been a couple of years ago said it made it loose alot of character, but it was still really good and I find the general town a bit like a huge market all the time so i'm liking it here, I think I said yesterday, I'm thinking of leaving here Thursday or Friday, 22nd or 23rd.

17th May - Trips around Kashgar

Sorry I haven't written for a while, we've been away from Kashgar, we went to this lake in the mountains, it was really cool, really really high, the two mountains either side were 7500m and 7700m high and Everest is only 8800m so we were by some of the tallest mountains in the world, I think in the top twenty, and then onto this place really near the Pakistan Afgaghastan and Takikastan border. We only really went for the bus ride, which is stunning through these mountain ranges and past plateaus with yaks, mountain sheep and goat and even some camels. It was really really good. oooo while we were at the lake I rode a horse, well more like a pony but still it was excellent, when we started it was going really slow and everyone else on the camels were so far ahead, and then a couple of smacks on the ass and I got him into a trot which got him going and from there we did some cantering and; I swear we broke into a gallop we were going really fast, as fast as he could go with a fatty like me and his back but maybe it wasn't a gallop just a fast canter.

Anyway am back in Kashgar now and going to the biggest market in Asia tomorrow, which I'm really looking forward to, I hope to get some nice photos.
Maybe some cheap present but I'm afraid the can only be very very cheap.
I can't decide when to leave Kashagar, at the latest it will be on Friday which means I'm probably gonna be in Beijing by Wednesday and on a flight as soon as possible it'll probably have to be on thursday though cos my train won't get in before 11:25 and I reckon there will only be one flight a day, but i'll just sleep on my suitcase in the airport, I'm allowed to do that aren't i? 13th May

Well SARS is a little annoying, we got back to Urumqi to go to the lake only to find that it had been shut "because of SARS". It's ridiculous, a lake up in the mountains out in the fresh air is shut cos of SARS. So we were a little bit fed up with Urumqi it only ever rains on us there, so went straight to Kashgar......only been here for a day but its really cool, an excellent buzz with little markets here and there, people banging pots and pans out of copper, people baking their flat bread in tandori ovens, somebody else has their hand stuffed in a goats mouth feeling its teeth while being told to get out of the way of a donkey cart laidened with wool, the poor old donkey trotting down the street being proded with a stick all the way.
Anyway about the flight, One of the lads I''m travelling with, phoned his flight company and was told that if he turns up at Beijing they will probably try and put him on the next available flight anyway, so I'm not sure what BA will say but I imagine it is something similiar, anyway I'll still have to rebook on another flight so the earlier one would be better for me. After Kashgar I'm gonna make my way straight back to Beijing, no stopping off anywhere, so I might be home a bit earlier than expected..
