Original entry made on 27 Sept updated here with riot pictures and further comment

This vehicle was one of many burnt out by the April student rioters. Police stations, Post offices were ransacked and burnt BEFORE the awful shooting incidents -

But people should be aware that this initially peaceful protest by students had got seriously out of hand.
Faced with such a frightening spectacle, I suspect that I am not alone in failing to join those who only blame the authorities. Everyone involved was a part of this tragedy - let no one say otherwise.

The Gambia-L list of 600 or so people who are interested in The Gambia. This is an interesting source of information and certainly some of the articles are well researched and balanced in their approach.

I understand that since the student riots, the list has become the venue of those opposed to the government of President Jemmah and in the weeks I have followed the list I have heard few voices in his support and any that sound that way get a pile of condemnation and accusation - very free speech. This is an open forum so within reason anything said goes.

Maybe I too should be opposed to his regime, but the treatment that I received from the vocal minority of Jemmah opponents makes me think that, if they lie about me with no factual basis then how do I know they are not lying about their political opponents.

The work on the container has been ongoing for several weeks, I must apologies to visitors for the lack of additions to the site, but I am just permanently tired. The end however is now most definitely in sight. With the final items of furniture, ladders and some sheets of useful building materials ready to complete the exercise.

We watched a film called "The Perfect Storm" In it a container ship is sunk in heavy seas, we just looked at each other "Please not this one". Quite apart from the donations of items tio fill it with we reckon the best part of 10 days work has gone into organising and packing it.

GTS has a solitary member in The Gambia at this time, Paula from Spain was to visit with her father, but in the end Raphael couldn't make it so GTS stepped in to make sure the 17 year old's holiday still went ahead.

Finally, a massive 'thank you' to everyone who has so generously offered financial contributions towards sending the container, it looks as if we will collect £400 towards the £2400 costs. This is such a help and will ensure the container gets there this November.
