Apart from the 25 Cent note, which has the image of a small child, each niote bears the likeness of a female from Guinee on the front left with a cultural object on the right.
These notes date from 1960
There are many artists and musicians who come from Guinee to The Gambia for the Tourist season.
They are excellent musicians in particular on the Jembi drums and a special hollowed wodden drum that makes a very distinctive set of sounds.
