After all the usual problems with getting a UK visa, followed by delays because all but expensive flights via Brussels were then fully booked up - Kabs will be making his 3rd visit to the UK this Tuesday - 26th August.

Kab's visit is a nice way to take my mind off the electric problem in Gambia, that has so plagued us for the last 4 months.

Arriving at Gatwick at around 6 in the morning, Kabs is making the journey with Sierra National Airways, the cheapest out of season flights to and from the Gambia and using Monarch Airline planes, I have found the flight service and meals the best on offer.

Kabs' visit started being sponsored by friends in Wales and they were the major impetus behind his visit. However they are being kind enough to share him aound and I will meet him at the airport being based in the South. A few days in London where we will meet May and Amat who are currently here for the birth of May's first baby in November,

A trip to Greenwich to see models of some of the slaving boats used during our slaving days in Gambia and a trip around docklands and the major sights of London, before heading to Basingstoke.

A trip to Swansea to meet up with Delyth & Dai and their family, who have collected over £750 for the Bakoteh School Project. Delyth is hoping to create a new Mandinka - English dictionary and phrase book, so we hope Kabs will have an input into that.

In a few weeks, Linda from the Dumbarton wing of GTS is visiting her sister in South Wales and will pick up Kabs for the Scottish leg of his visit, meeting Fr Kenny and the congregation of St Augustines Church - many of whom contribute weekly to the fund that has provided a FREE school in one of the poorest areas of Serekunda for 90 Nursery children, including a lunch time feeding programme and medical care. Alistair McIndou from a neighbouring christian community have also been involved in the fund raising for the project - Gambia is close to Alistair's heart - he was born in Gambia - up river in Basse where his parents were missionaries.

Kabs was the force in setting up the community links and school committee, who now with GTS, oversees the school's management and funding.

It was hoped that Kabs would be in the UK for the CLA Gamefair, but he will get close when visiting Angela Sarr in Leeds. At least Angela will take him to Harewood House to see the site and the brown paths beaten in the grass by the 131,000 visitors. Angela is hoping to build a project in the Gambia over the next few years and has invited GTS to be involved.

It will now be the end of September and Kabs will come back to London to meet up with old friends and the family Nick and Chris, who sponsored his education and whom he visited in England as a boy.

His flight back is on the 10th October, just days before Adam and I expect to return to sort things out before the start of the new season of winter visitors.

Hopefully we will soon have a collection of Kabs in the UK pictures, If you know Kabs from Gambia visits and would like to meet up with him or contact him for a chat on the phone, please contact me and we can see if arrangements can be made.
