GTS has had an appeal from a friend of ours, who knows that we help to provide support for working holidays. Makasutu is a wonderful project set in natural Gambian Forest that comes right down to the banks of creeks off the River Gambia. It is a truly magical place.

When Angela Rippon visited Gambia with a holiday TV crew, it was here she nursed a baby baboon and took a creek trip in a traditional dugout canoe, at the time the Park was hardly open, but now it is in full swing.

To provide for riding trips round the park, Makasuto has 12 horses but is in desperate need of someone with experience to help out and to train the local people in horse care and management of tack and equipment.

If you want a 3-6 month break from your regular work, (or more) this could be your opportunity.

If you follow the GTS website, we may have seen that we are communicating with the newly set up Gambian Horse and Donkey Trust. Recently I heard from Heather who set the trust up that, she wrote:-

"If you have a number of volunteers responding to your webpage, could you pass some on to us please. We had hoped for help from VSO but that has not materialised. I have a container load of equipment to be shipped out, a lot of it is equipment that the Gambians will not be familiar with, an we need a good horse person to receive it, sort it and teach the Gambian staff how to use it."

So we need two people to help - please contact me on the email link in the left column if you can offer any assistance and have a great time in Gambia at the same time
