Mariama is an elder sister to Lamin and Fatou Badjie. She is living with her extended family and is looked after by her grandmother. The grandmother can no longer work, therefore finances are difficult. All their sponsorships have come from Janet Daniels and she always follows the progress of the children, visits them when she is in the Gambia and ensures their fees are paid and up to date.

The subjects Mariama is taking at school are maths, english, science, social and environment studies, history, cookery, sewing and literature. She is a hard working child, both at school and at home.
