Lamin's mother and father divorced when he was 8 years old and his father has since remarried. His father is a cleaner at Sibanor village in Foni and is on a very low wage. He cannot afford to support his family through school or even feed them, so nothing goes towards Lamin's education. His mother is a gardener and sells what she harvests. The money she gets from what she has sold goes on a bag or cups of rice. All money goes towards food and therefore she cannot afford to send Lamin to school. Lamin is the only one of his siblings who attends school; the school prepared a document for him which he used to go around the streets with asking for donations. The donations he collected went towards his school fees, however they did not cover his computer fees, hence he still asks for donations. According to the letter from the school, Lamin is very dedicated, obedient and ambitious, therefore they asked for help in their letter. Lamin's sponsorship came about as Jennie and Val were in the Gambia and Jerreh recommended Lamin to be sponsored due to his background and need for support through school.
