Isatou stays with her Grandfather as her Father is a subsistence farmer based about 50 km from Serrekunda. Her Mother sadly died in an accident a year ago. Her Grandfather has funded her education, but was becoming concerned that he couldn't raise enough money for her school fees as he is elderly and finding it more difficult to keep the family in food, and the educational costs rise as the students get older. She sat her examination in May 2005 to be promoted to a senior secondary school for grades 10 to 12.

When Isatou was in Primary school she had to attend to the family's food and meals during the morning and attend school in the afternoon. She did well, this did not affect her performance.

She is a prefect in her class, and represents her class in quiz competitions and makes sure the premises are clean and tidy. Her Headmaster said there is only ever any difficulty when it comes to payment of fees connected with her schooling and that if she were given help her grades could only get even better. GTS identified her as a student needing help and added her to their needy students file.

Update January 06 - Isatou has passed her external exams and has been promoted to the senior secondary school where she will do 3 years for grades 10, 11 and 12.
