Sheila Palister long time GTS member has offered to act as UK link for sponsors and of course Jerreh is holding the files in Gambia and doing the day to day administration of paying school fees, sorting out books, uniforms, food and transport where applicable. Despite continued problems with getting information regularly back to sponsors - apart from some mild complaints and niggles, all but one of our sponsors have stayed with us. Those visiting Gambia tend to realise the physical problems involved BUT we fully recognise that sponsors need information - pictures and progress reports. It sounds so simple - someone said to me - "Just send a general report it doesn't have to be exactly about their child - they just want to feel there money is doing good and want to be told it" I can't do that - for me it is better to send no report than to make something up - GTS does what is says it does - it takes responsability for sponsors money - it makes sure the students fees are paid and it keeps checks that the students are working as they should - AND THAT HAPPENS all through the year. But keeping the sponsors informed is the weak link it always has been. Sheila will help and so will the work of Andrea (another GTS member of long standing) who has volunteered to help with student web pages - SO if you are sponsoring through GTS please check the web pages - if you want further information on your student you can contact Jerreh direct - but hopefully over the next few months those pages will fill out with information and feedback. We are inviting all sponsors to the 2nd AGM of GES - this meeting should finally see our UK charity registration agreed and we hope all UK tax paying sponsors will agree to signing GiftAid statements that will allow GES to claim the tax you already paid on your earnings that you then donated to GES back from the taxman - Part opf this will go on GES admin to ensure that all your donated money continues to go where it is intended. I hope any left over may be used
as wages for a secretary to be employed by GES to work with GTS in Gambia
to provide all the reporting back that we need. 5 Top
