Shirley, co-opted GETS Executive member suggested this idea for raising funds in the GTS Restaurant in Gambia

The new school will have accommodation on site for visiting helpers and gap year students.

It will provide a varied environment for the children who will be taken from Nursery School level through to University entrance.

The project will grow from a single class entry and will eventually provide education for over 300 children.

Gambia Education & Teaching Support has started training the teachers in all the 4 nursery schools under the GETS umbrella.

The Gambia is a third world country and their buildings do not allow for personalised engraved bricks, but your name, if you wish would be included on a plaque within the inside of the school.

All names will be displayed in a laminated book thanking contributors

It is our vision that fundraising through GETS will provide the capital to build this school, and that it will see children through all their education years.
The aim is to build the school with a resource and practise centre for the Gambian teachers, who will benefit from the work of GETS.
(Gambia Education & Teaching Support) is based in the UK.

The long term aim of GETS is to build a school that will take children from 3 to University so 15 classrooms will be needed plus support buildings, the total cost will be over vastly more than £4000. It has taken GETS 2 years to raise nearly £1500.

This year (our 10th year in Gambia) we are stepping up the Buy a Brick campaign, we'd dearly love to start the building in 2011, but need to have raised £20K before commencing this large project.

AS GETSuk is a UK registered charity if you are a tax payer and sign a giftaid statement, we are able to claim the tax you have paid on your donation back from the taxman, making your help even more valuable.
