Jerreh will be the GTS member of staff responsible for this project under the wing of Kabs our GTS manager. This will not only be an excellent project for Youna and The Gambia, but will provide Jerreh with an excellent management challenge. It also provides GES/GTS with the ability in the future to offer sports places for GAP Students and Working Volunteers Fund Raising Page Comments to GES |
Hello Everyone, I am Jerreh Jammeh, a CHARITY HOST of Gambia Tourist Support in The Gambia. Therefore, I would like to express my gratitute to Tim, Lesley, Ben and Sam (UK) for being the first amongs others for the introduction of BADMINTON game into the Gambian schools (Youna and Tujereng Lower Basic Schools). This came up when the guys concern communicated with GTS for their support and the response was positive as GTS recommended the above named schools, hence they are within the rural area of the Gambia. Thus, I personally do not got any idea about the game, though I just herd of its name. But with the help of these people, I am now proud to be even the head coach of Badminton in the country. In the same vein, students didn't show much interest at first - as they never heard of the name either or know the how of playing it, but as at now, both the Headmasters, Teachers, and the Students of both schools are playing the game in their leisure times in the schools and had finally introduced it to their Physical Education Lessons at the moment. Also, students are now fighting of getting Rackets to play at Tujereng, because there is a multi-purpose hall in that school, and badminton is an indoor game. Basically, our intension is to make competition between the two schools (Youna and Tujereng) as starting, but Youna didn't get any hall to perform well in the game as at Tujereng, because it is a community built School, while that of Tujering is funded by the Government. Therefore, Tim, Lesly, Ben and Sam (UK) promised the school to look for funding back home in the UK for the building of the Multi-purpose hall in respect of Badminton game, such that Youna can defeat the oponent whenever they lock horn, as they believe that Youna students got more interest and skills in playing the game. Finally, on behalf of the community of Youna Lower Basic School, Headmaster, Teachers, Students and GTS, I would like to appeal to any person that can help contribute cash or kind for the raising of a multi-purpose hall in Youna Village. Once again I thank the above names for their time and effort to bring Badminton game into reality to the Gambian schools. Again I shall never forget my propritor
of Gambia Tourist Support Mr Francis Glynn and family and the able Manager
Kabs (The Gambia), for all their efforts towards the success of this project.
