I heard about Concern Universal, when a work colleague contacted me about travelling to The Gambia. His wife is a trustee of the charity and they were off on a very busy two weeks to Gambia and Ghana to see some of the local projects funded by the charity UK registered Charity No. 272465 Concern Universal Executive Director: Dr Ian Williams Concern Universal provides strategies for dealingn with poverty around the world. It has local projects in The Gambia tackling the problems of fuel shortages for cooking, farming initiatives, soil erosion and salination of rice fields. Your money goes into the general pot and is used around the world with local people to provide help where it is most needed. Their Mission statement, says it all Concern Universal's mission is to enhance the dignity and to improve the lives of people living in proverty; to enable people to help themselves by providing practical opportunities to creat a better future: to work with determination and care to empower people in need, regardless of race, gender, religion or political affiliation Concern Universal is big time charity, between March 99 and March 2000 its total expenditure was £3,000,896. £2,864,061 was spent on charitable expenditure, and only £136,835 on administration and fund raising costs this represents less than 5% of the total.
