One of the BIG problems with sending container shipments is the high price. THAT and the fact that money is easier to transport to Gambia and buys many of the items sent in local shops - which helps employment, the local economy and avoids using money given for charity to pay for transport.

Having said that - GTS has been offered boxes full of training shoes and clothes, medical supplies, school desks and chairs, black boards, chalk, books, paper, pens, wheel chairs which apart fro taking as luggage when we visit we have had to tun down or put on hold.

Over the 10 years we have operated, we have sent two containers to Gambia - both have caused us problems at the Gambia end with the customs and we simply do not have the resources to send further containers BUT STILL have valuable resources sent to us that we would still like to send to Gambia.

We still send small parcels with other charities who send containers over but still hope to find a commercial shipper who will offer space on a regular basis for charity items.

UK schools and libraries are filling UK landfill sites with perfectly useable desks chairs even palletts of unused exercise books, not to even consider the vast number of school and library books dumped each year.
