Probably the 'package-holiday' of the 'package-holiday' hotels. Built in 1976 by the Swedish co-promoter of the Bungalow Beach next door, it is still Swedish-owned & family-managed. The entrance and reception area is squeezed between the hotel's well-stocked street front mini-market and Sir William's Restaurant & disco, (refurbished during 2001 - GTS regulars will know our friend Sainabou works at Sir William's) The hotels accommodation is secluded and shaded amidst a profusion of landscaped vegetation, bungalows and 2 storied round houses, 58 double, 8 triple & 14 four-bedded rooms, all with showers & fans for hire (30 dalasis p.d.). The rooms are white-walled & carpeted, they have good sprung mattresses, posh wrought-iron chairs & tables outside, and the odd monkey that drop by. Along the road, beside the mini-market, some functional blocks have been added, 6 twin and 2 triple apartments, all with baths and kitchenettes. Bakotu means 'By Kotu (creek)', Kotu bridge is the bird watchers starting place for the area and birds abound everywhere. Meals are in the adjacent Sir William's, which has live music nightly and a weekly Jola show. The beach is a short distance, between the Bungalow Beach & Kombo Beach hotels, via a parade of restaurants, souvenir stalls and self-appointed guides and money changers. Bed & breakfast £30 (approx 660D) for a double double, £25 ( 550D) for a single. 5 Top
