GTS Aid Container The GTS container is now sitting on the land we purchased during 2000. The project to build a resource centre is now under way, but has stopped while we negotiate Lamin's position, now that he has withdrawn as a partner. |

Rhyn
Park School - St Martins, Shropshire In a fantastic gesture of charity and friendship, the staff at the school were delighted to offer GTS approx. 20 working computers and others for spares. These were already destined for Africa, but shipping arrangements had not been made. The link with GTS was made through Mrs Helen Glynn, to whom the school had already given some boxes of books, left over from the Mozambique appeal, when the response was so generous, that there was no room for all the books donated. The
Computers will initially go to the GTS centre in Brufut. Although not the latest technology, they will provide the most valuable 'hands on' experience for children and staff who are currently very under resourced in all technology areas. The final intention is to create a link between pupils in the Gambian schools and those at Rhyn Park, there has been a suggestion that this might also include a two-way cam link so that pupils can experience the visual and social differences in the two countries. Secondary education in The Gambia is not FREE and combined families who earn little more that £25.00 a week, pay around 20% of their income for one childs education so many families can only afford to educate one child beyond primary school. The building at Brufut has unfortunately stopped since January 2001, while we try to settle Lamin's demands over his withdrawal as a partner. We hope this problem will be resolved very soon and that theproject along with the provision of a small local library and computer resource will be able to proceed. 5 Top
