Habibou's sponsorship was chosen by his headmistress when requests came to her from GTS to identify a most needy student in the school aged 12. This request came from a GTS member on behalf of Sandra who wanted to sponsor a boy who was the same age as her son so that they could correspond with each other. The sponsorship came about at the opening ceremony of GTS Bakoteh Proper Lower Basic library.

The reason Habibou was chosen for sponsorship was because his father died, leaving all financial responsibility on his mother, who has to pay rent, support and feed the four children. The headmistress says he does very well at school.
